Bird King Festival
Bird King Festival is a fest which reminds us of the Le Puy-en-Velay's medieval and Renaissance heritage. Aristocratic people can be seen in fur-lined velvet cloaks strolling at the side of peasants wearing only plain tunics and guiding their donkeys, jugglers performing, and vendors selling meat pies. Musicians can be seen playing recorders and pounding on drums on nearly every corner.
On the major square, women in long and full skirts with scarves bend over and chickens being roasted on smoky outdoor spits are familiar scenes of the festival. Tourers who are mostly French arrive in hundreds so that they are able to get a taste of long-ago days and take pleasure in the week-long festivities. But foreigners who do not know the language will surely miss the jokes.
Flower Shows Festival
The typical turreted Loire Chateau has dominated a royal point on the great Loire River ever since it was reconstructed by the Amboise family in the 15th century. Thus each and every summer it hosts the Chaumont Garden Festival which is the French's Chelsea Flower Show. The show pulls in around 150,000 visitors yearly to look at its 30 show gardens and the Chateau's decorated grounds, flower house and deep engorge which are complete with wooden hanging bridge.
